Eugene Online Academy

ABOUT

About Us

Eugene Online Academy (EOA) is a tuition-free online learning option for students in grades 6–12, offered through Eugene School District 4J. EOA provides a flexible, supportive alternative to the traditional classroom. Every student is issued a laptop, and all instruction takes place online.

Instruction is primarily asynchronous, meaning students can complete most of their work on their own schedule. However:

  • Students in grades 6–8 have one hour of required live (synchronous) instruction each school day.

  • Students in grades 9–12 will now have two testing options for assessments to demonstrate their proficiency.
    • Students can report to the brick-and-mortar school’s Online Learning Lab or the designated alternate test site to complete the exam. It will be proctored by an EOA staff member.
    • Students can have a one-on-one virtual meeting with their teacher prior to the exam. The teacher will determine the student’s readiness and will open the exam.
  • As always, IEP and 504 accommodations for alternate testing locations will be honored to ensure that every student has the support they need.

Note that Credit Recovery courses will still require in-person testing for all assessments.  Those courses, which students take if they have previously failed the subject, are identified as OL CR in the course title.

EOA students are supported by licensed 4J teachers and have regular check-ins to stay on track. They can choose from a wide variety of core and elective courses.

To remain enrolled in EOA, students must:

  • Log in to each of their classes every school day,

  • Maintain regular attendance, and

  • Make adequate academic progress toward course completion.

Students may also participate in extracurricular activities at their neighborhood school or take in-person classes as space allows.
